the universe hates me

baronessekatI'm cleaning for guests this weekend. I get a craving for popcorn. Now I don't usually care for popcorn but sometimes I get a hankering for it.
I get a mini bag out and toss it into the microwave. but see here's the issue. The microwave is ancient and does not have a turn table and the heating is not even on the best of days. So the bag doesn't really pop but burns. I try again. Same thing. I break out a big bag and ditto for the no pop burn.
Grumbling I get out mom's old air popper. Start it up and go about sweeping the kitchen while the thing does it's magic. Only two minutes into the process the gizmo shuts itself off for overheating.
I don't dare pull out the other popper - the kind where you use the lid as bowl when done. And I don't have the energy to stand over a stove and pop it the old fashioned way.
Damn it. The house has just enough of a popcorn butter smell that I really want popcorn now.
