Behold the power of Cute!

As posted before, today was the CGC/TDI test.

We got there before not only the evaluator but also the facility manager.

So we waited until they all showed up and ended up first on the list.

We went through all the steps and he charmed everyone, including the other dogs (especially the golden and the austrailian shepherd/coonhound mix).

The tester that takes the dogs away from the handler for 5 minutes came back and asked "Do I have to give him back?"

So needless to say:

WE PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to all who gave us support. Now to just fill out the paperwork and mail it in to TDI and AKC. Once our "id badge" arrives I can contact a couple nursing homes and hospitals to see about doing at least once a month visits. One of the evaluator assistants mentioned that there was a lady at one of the nursing homes who had asked about little animals visiting. So I will look into them.

But WHEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm so proud of my little guy.

Yea. Good Job. Biscuits for all.

Shelley did some therapy dog visits with Simon. There were organized by the local animal shelter (Lollypop Farm) who also ran the Therapy Dog classes. It was an organized mob visit where a regular group of people did visits with dogs and various other animals.

You can also get his State Dog License updated with therapy dog status and the state waives the annual registration fee. Both of mine have that status (somehow), so I actually get something for free from NYS. For a while the registration paperwork said "police dog", but they have since updated it to something much more mundane - "Exempt-Other"

He is a wonderful, charming little fellow--but don't forget to take your fair share of the praise. You've worked hard to nurture all of his wonderfulness, and it has so paid off!

Congratulations! Is the TDI like the CGC (Canine Good Citizen)?

They test them simultaneously or at least here they do. It is possible to pass CGC but not therapy but you cannot pass therapy and not pass CGC.

The only difference is that TDI requires to see how the dog reacts to medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches as well as medical smells.

For the smells, my evaluator gives her clothes to someone who works in a nursing home so they can get the smell of cancer patients, colostomy and other funky stuff you only smell in medical situations.

And the evaluator here does the medical equipment and the rowdy crowd test as the same. So you get a rowdy group of over excited people in wheelchairs and walkers and stuff. It's all "extreme situations" but if the dog passes there then it should have no issues out in the real world.
