The downside to cleaning

When something has lived someplace for so long and you put it "away", when you go to look for the thing you want, you can't find it because it's no longer in its traditional spot and now you are left wondering "where the hell did I put it?"

one of the things I have learned in moving so much in my life (16-17 times in 25 years) is to store it near where its used or make a note and keep it near where its used.

I have often had a word doc with an alphabetical listing of where things are so I can just search where things SHOULD be but if others live in the same space it becomes harder.

Yep. I just started a marathon "sort out my stuff" binge. I'll be looking for things for years!

On my last "big" move, I was so tired of labeling boxes that I actually started writing "SURPRISE!" on the box instead of the contents.

Bad idea.

I let my boys put things away, telling them exactly where I wanted them. they are adults now and there are things I still can not find. How the h$ll can you lose 4 white stackable chairs , a full size futon or a Christmas tree?If I live long enough to ever move again there are sure to be many "surprises"

I used to have a carpet sweeper.
How can you lose the actual carpet sweeper part, but still have the handle?
That happened after storing items with a former in-law.........

The infamous "I put it some place where I won't lose it".

Been there, done that.

When we moved into our current house I rearranged our kitchen 3 times until everything was in an "intuitive" place for me.

...Of course, my husband still has no idea where some things are. ;)

I do the “OK…try to remember the last place you saw it” And then realize it was at my last apartment. Where it is now, who knows. Probably storage.
