Garden update

Sugar Snap Peas in the pot.

Sage and Taragon going strong in the Topsy-Turvy

Rosemary on the other side of the Topsy-Turvy

The garden itself. Tomatoes and pumpkins are doing well. Beans and cucumber are a little pathetic but being rather stalwart. Carrots have started to sprout. But.....

Something is munching on the eggplant. It looks to me like the perp is an insect of some kind. It has not touched any of the other plants. Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop that is NOT chemical in nature?

A shallow saucer of beer will deal with slugs. They love it and it kills them.

Spraying diluted dishsoap on the leaves will discourage some other types of bugs.

Hi,

If the eggplant is in the shade there is a flea that eats it. We found this out last year. This year we have slugs and something else. We are using cheap crap beer in a tilted cup. They crawl in and die. Dump them daily because dear gods above, 2 days later you all kinds of do not want to smell that ecosystem piece up close. We have been spraying Dr Bronners (DILUTE! DILUTE!) about 1 tbs in 1 quart of water onto anything leafy green. You do have to reapply after the rain. I forget this sometimes.

Peas want to climb something. Last year we used string and they loved it, this year we used string and an elderly re-purposed fence. They love both options.

The dish detergent can be a problem. Insecticidal soap is very eco friendly (and human, dog, and cat safe), and adheres better than dishsoap. Dr. Bonner's is a great solution (yes, dilute) but plan to reapply daily as even a heavy dew can wash it off.
