GRE 2009 #13a

I revisited the apple cloverleaf rolls today (http://baronessekat.livejournal.com/562980.html)

I left out the apple chunks and made it into a loaf rather than rolls.

Let the dough rise and rest overnight in the fridge, brought it up to room temperature this morning and then put it in a pyrex loaf pan.

Baked at 350ºF for 30 minutes, then glazed the top of the loaf with egg beaters and baked for another 5 minutes.

It came out all happy and good.

I had a slice buttered for breakfast. OMG YUM!

I think it helped that I used cider that is close to turning and the cinnamon I used was vietnamese cinnamon but dayum - tasty.

It's going to be awesome in a ham sandwich that I plan for lunch.

As some know - I'm allergic to eggs. As a result most breakfast casseroles are a big No for me.

But while looking for things to do with left over chicken I found one that does no eggs. So here it is.

GRE #9 and 10

Last night was a night of experiments for our Friday Family Dinner. We opted to wait for the Duchesses to come in before eating so that we could have an extended family dinner.

We had:

Schweinbraten (Adapted some for Slow Cooker )

And the girls and I talked about what to have with the pork and we all came to the agreement. Something we have only had a handful of times as events.

GRE #7

The family Easter breakfast yesterday had me trying a new recipe. I had made these before but I could not find the original recipe I used out of a cookbook so I found this one.

New Orleans Style Beignet Recipe )

I thought they were easy to make, though time consuming. And I was happy with the results.

Since the ladies all "sacrificed" themselves to make sure there was room on the plate for more fresh ones to be put, I am going to assume the ladies enjoyed them too. But I will let them post a response if they so choose.

Ok, a couple people have commented.

Tonight's dinner was an experiment (having never made a homemade hashbrown before) so I guess it counts

Gumbo Casserole )

Not bad. I'd like a little more cajun kick to it. Next time I may add bacon (cuz everything is better with bacon) to give it depth and maybe a bit of tobasco sauce.

Great Recipe Experiment 2009 #1

This recipe I've had sitting in the "gotta try" pile for a while. I finally decided to try it today.

Creamy Ranch Pork Chops & Rice )

I found this rather tasty. I especially liked the subtle depth given to the rice. Not something that I will make all the time but it will definitely go into regular rotation

This might also work rather well with chicken
