When this came up as an option for Hello Fresh this week, I took it. It looked good and would be good for a quick nibble as Sis and I played card games.

This year, as it was just my sister and I for Christmas dinner, instead of roasting up a turkey, I cooked up a hello fresh meal that seemed appropriate.

the latest meal from Hello Fresh was OMG delicious. I had to really fight the urge to eat both servings. But I was good and saved one for leftovers.

I've been so bad lately about eating dinner like a grown up. It's either order something in or popcorn. And I've been feeling it. So at Thanksgiving, when my sister told me she had started doing Hello Fresh and made us a couple of the meals from her recent shipment, I thought I'd do it too. I signed up for the 2 person, 3 meals a week plan. This gives me at least 6 meals worth of food with the occasional meal also coming with stuff to turn it into a unique lunch.

It would be cheaper than Skip the Dishes every couple nights, healthier in the long run and get me to actually start cooking and doing again (instead of coming home and being a zombie after work).

Yesterday my first box arrived and I tried one of them.

Every year at Pennsic, I look forward to Ciarra's night to cook for the camp as she makes this dish she calls BBQ Turkey.

I never think of it as BBQ (as to me that requires smoking, application of a grill and usually some sort of sauce). But I find it delicious and I finally broke down and asked for the recipe, which she sent me last week.

The other weekend I wanted to make waffles for the Sunday after an event. I got up early to make them for my houseguest and discovered... I was out of baking mix. But I remembered my mother never made waffles with baking mix and I even remembered what cookbook she used. So, what are friends for if not to experiment culinarly on them?

The grocery store had whole roasting chickens on sale for such a good price I really couldn't pass it up, despite not currently having a working oven. While it would have fit in my little convection oven, I wanted to try something else.

So off to the internet I went and found how to roast a chicken in the slow cooker.

From: The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, by Deb Perelman (2012) ISBN 978-0-307-59565-2
Later found: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/01/mushroom-bourguignon/

I received the cookbook as a gift for Christmas and had instantly marked this as a "had to try" but needed the right reason to make it (other than it looked good). So, for the monthly "Game/Movie/Dinner Night that I have been trying to host, I decided to inflict my friends on a new recipe. After all, if you can't subject your friends to recipe experiments, who can you?

I doubled the recipe because I originally expected 6-7 people, but due to illness and other responsibilities, I ended up with just myself, J & P. So now I get lunches!

edit this is even better when it is given time to sit and let the flavors meld!

Anyway, on to the reporting: )

Yesterday was Baronial 12th Night and Potluck. When asked what kind of thing I should bring, I was told with a resounding voice that my baked goods are always appreciated.

So, what better excuse do I need to start this years Recipe Experiments.

And yet another "found it on Pintrest". I do not like peanut butter so the traditional peanut butter blossoms (or Black eyed Susans as my mom called them) are not ones I make. But I saw these and decided to try them since I like cherries and chocolate.
