baronessekat: (shovel)
we had snow last night.

I woke up at 5 to hear the news say there had been 9 inches reported at the airport. I live north of the airport but have to drive through airport region to get to work. *sigh*

I get up, layer up and by 6:30 was bundling up to go out and break in the new snowblower. I'm just saying right now LOVE IT. It's old but hey... it cleared 8+ inches of HEAVY from my driveway in about an hour and a half (same amount with shovel takes me about 5). Only thing I kept having to do was turn it off and clear out the hard packed stuff from the shoot so that it would actually throw the snow and not clog up and push the snow.

Driving into work was an adventure. the 290 was VERY slow but safe drivers as the roads had not been plowed much of anything yet. Once I hit the 90 the roads were clear so the drivers were insane. Then I reached the 219 and the roads were not plowed and the blowing and drifting wasa nightmare.

So I'm at work, hoping we get out early as I want to tackle the driveway again with the car out of it so I can clear it better. Besides, I'm cold.

We got out of work early. Yay.

I come home, park the van in the neighbor's driveway and trudge up to the house and pull out my Snowblower of Luv. I do two passes and *BOINK* one of the stupid wheels falls off.

So I finish up the little that had blown back in to the driveway since this morning, take the wheel and drive up to the little hole in the wall hardware store around the corner. It's a bit farther than Home Despot but I figured the guys there would give me straight answers. I know I just need a new pin for it.

So I take the wheel in, describe what is holding the other wheel in and they go "OH, it's a hair pin and spike. You don't want that. It will just snap and you will be back here getting a new one. What you want is this..." they take me over to the nuts and bolts, try various bolts until they find one that fits and say "This is cheaper AND will last you a good long while."

See this is why I go there for specific hardware assistance. I thank them and the one guy goes... "YOu better get a second one since the other side will probably go soon." and GIVES me the bolt and nut to have as a back up.

Wheel has been put back on with new bolt and spare bolt is where I know where to find it if/when the other side goes.

Now I'm home, thawing out and have plans to do nothing for the rest of the evening except work on a fun crochet project that I found and want to try. I doubt I will be awake for the ball drop. But so what. I'd rather sleep.
