It's a conspiracy

Now the stupid garbage disposal has stopped working.

It's official... machines hate me.

Fixed

Not quite sure what was wrong, but hot water, liquid plumber, pushing a little red button, a wooden spoon handle and lots of swearing has freed the garbage disposal of the gremlins.
