The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim ButcherMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book was recommended on the Jim Butcher Appreciation page of Facebook as one that if you liked the Dresden Series you most likely will really like this one too.
And I have to agree. I listened to the audiobook and was instantly engaged with the story. I found all the characters, even minor ones, to have a depth and complexity that I really enjoyed. They had their own personalities and quirks that made them seem more real. Now, I don't know how much of that was Jim's writing or the reader's storytelling ability. But regardless, I looked forward to every moment I could spend listening to this tale.
I especially loved the character of Rowl, the cat. He was exactly how I expect almost every cat I have ever known to be... witty and sarcastic, haughty and loving, and very, very self important.
This was also my first foray into the steampunk genre and I am intrigued enough that I will probably go looking for more, and I most certainly am looking forward to the next installment in this series.
