baronessekat: (book)
Blood Red (Elemental Masters, #10)Blood Red by Mercedes Lackey

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have very much enjoyed this entire series and seeing how Lackey takes the inspiration of a fairy tale and turns it into something else.

I liked this one, especially, because throughout the entire story, the heroine has to face prejudices that were common and expected in the time period. I liked that she mentions the scandalous looks Rosa receives when she walks through town in her hunting leathers - pants- and not the socially accepted skirts of the time. I like how she has to deal with her own prejudices with Markos and how not all shifters are the same, though I do think she got over them a little too quickly and conveniently.

The other thing I liked about this particular story was that there was very little romance in it. There was some flirting that is actually addressed and at the end of the book there is a hint of an idea of a thought. But unlike some of the others in this series, it was not part of the central story.

All in all I liked this take on Little Red Riding Hood and will continue to look for more in the Elemental Masters series.
