baronessekat: (book)
Starry NightStarry Night by Debbie Macomber

my rating: 0 out of 5 stars

I tried. Oh my lord did I try. I just couldn't.

I fully admit that contemporary romance is not usually the romance genre I go for. But I saw this little book tucked in a corner of the Christmas clearance rack and it fulfilled a category in a reading challenge (a book with a blue cover). I want my $2 back!!!

I slogged through 157 pages before I just surrendered and said "I give up". I found the characters annoying. The plot unbelievable and when I got to the part where the conversation goes:

"Am I your girl, Finn?"

"Would a guy send you a toaster if you weren't?" he asked.

SERIOUSLY? SRSLY? He sends her an antiquated toaster as a "I like you" gift. Why not drag her out into the playground and pull her pigtails.

I've seen better contrived and believable romances in kindergarten.

I've never ready anything by Macomber before and I can pretty much guarantee that because of this, I never will in the future.
