baronessekat: (book)
Dark HarvestDark Harvest by Norman Partridge

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Horror is one of the genres of literature that I can generally take or leave (usually leave). But after my sister raved about this book last year, it piqued my interested.

All I can say is dayum. To describe the basic plot would give away pretty much the entire book, so I won't do that. All I will say it that it feels very much like a first season episode of the TV show "Supernatural" as narrated by the character of Chuck.

What I will speak to is the language choices that the author picked. Second person present tense, tends not to be a writing style I enjoy at all, but that is exactly what made this book work so well. The choice of tense and almost conversational tone to the book is what made it down right creepy, and brought the story to life. This is certainly a book I am glad I read rather than listened to as an audiobook.

This is certainly a book that I will recommend to others if looking for something in this genre.
