* Erasable Highlighters. I was skeptical, but they were one one of the highlights of my day.

* Friends out of the blue doing something because they knew I had had a bad day and just making me know I have friends. That means the world to me.

* Double my water goal for the day, met my walking goal. (Puck walked with me up and down the hall some, mostly out of total confusion - I think)

Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #1)Red Sister by Mark Lawrence

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"It is important, when killing a nun, to ensure that you bring an army of sufficient size.

Despite the efforts of one of the elite families of the cities, Nona was saved at a young age from the gallows by the Abbess of the Convent of Sweet Mercy and brought to live and train at the Convent. Through the years she learns the ways of the Sisters: faith, magic, death. But she knows that something is happening - to her and the world around her.

I found the story enjoyable enough and I can totally see why my sister loved the book. The author has a good way to weave words to build the drama, though some of the things that occurred were somewhat predictable. And I will say that I really enjoyed Heather O'Neill's reading (though I had to check that it was not Marina Sirtis - Counselor Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation, as her voice was very similar)

I am not going to rush out for the next book, but when time permits I will seek it out.

The Blood Throne of CariaThe Blood Throne of Caria by Roy Casagranda

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rating is more of a 3.5, leaning to a 4 so I rounded up.

Artemesia was the daughter of a ruling lord in Caria, an area that is now located in modern Turkey. In a time when women were not allowed much freedom, she earned her way to lead the lands, become Queen and warlord for the Persian armies.

This book is a novelization of her life. Much is speculation as there is not a lot of recorded information about her.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway and am glad that I did, as it is not something I would most likely would have picked up on my own. The pacing was good, though the dialog felt a bit sitled at times. The book could use the help of a copy editor though as I found several places where the wrong word was used or random symbols were inserted into words.

I hope Mr. Casagranda continues to write and should he do so, I would be tempted to see what he does with other moments and people in history.
