baronessekat: (book)
Tarkin (Star Wars)Tarkin by James Luceno

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I fully admit that ever since I first saw "A New Hope", I have felt an affinity to Grand Moff Tarkin. He had a presence that I found more terrifying than Vader could ever hope to have. Calm, level, calculating, cold, military. In a great many ways, he is soooo similar to my all time favorite Star Wars character - Admiral Thrawn. So needless to say, when I learned there was a book dedicated to the Grand Moff, it immediately went onto my TBR list.

This book gives insight into the upbringing that helped Tarkin rise to be the first Grand Moff of the Empire and shows how he worked with the Emperor, Vader and other members of the Imperial Hierarchy.

That being said, it was an interesting story. but I think I would have liked a bit more of ... something. I'm not sure what though. But I did like it and Euan Morton's reading of it was well done. He did a good job of reading Vader and the Emperor, but his voice of Tarkin was lacking something - but who can replicate the cadence, gravitas and timber of Peter Cushing?

If you are a fan of Star Wars, especially Episode IV, I would recommend.
