My rating: 5 of 5 stars
On Friday, his wife dies. On Sunday he buries her. On Monday his job forcibly retires him. As a man who lives by structure and schedule, Ove determines that the only thing left to do is take his life and join his wife in the afterlife.
But the universe seems to find ways to interrupt his plans. A new family moves in nearby and the very pregnant wife refuses to let the curmudgeon just stop living. Through stubbornness, determination and guile, she and other younger members of the neighborhood get him to be involved and constantly apologize to his wife that he will not be joining her just yet.
+++++
This audiobook was just moving. I would have hated Ove had I met him in person, but as a character, he was just delightful. And when it ended, I was amazed at the amount of dust that was floating in the room I was in, because I just don't tear up over books.
It's also been a long time since I listened to an audiobook for a full day straight. That is testament to both the story and the reader.
