One night, 15 year old Clary is out with her best friend at a club. There she witnesses a murder - only she's the only one who can see it and the body disappears.

Clary finds herself swept up into the world of Shadow Hunters - human/angel hybrids who hunt demons and finds answers to the secrets her mother has been keeping from her her entire life.

Now Clary struggles to keep herself, her best friend and her new acquaintances alive while trying to save her mother and the world.

I can understand the acclaim this book has gotten. I found myself pulled in and I will certainly get the next book sooner rather than later. And I may just watch the TV show based on the series of books.
