baronessekat: (book)
Firekeeper's DaughterFirekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

18-year old Daunis is caught between worlds. Too Native for her white heritage, and too white for her Native heritage, she does her best to be part of both. Add to that she's tall and plays hockey.

She's in turmoil watching her people be destroyed by a growing Meth problem on the Res. Then she witnesses a horrific murder-suicide and her world gets turn even more upside down.

Enter the FBI who recruit her to be a Confidential Informant to help them break the Meth ring and maybe find justice for those who have been effected by this problem.

What follows is Daunis trying to find out who she is, how she can help her people and be true to herself.

+++

This book was an emotional roller-coaster. Pure and simple. There were great parts, horrific parts, sad and painful parts and parts that made me very very angry.

This is not your typical YA crime drama. But I would recommend this debut novel to any who ask about it.
