Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lazlo was an orphan who for as long as he can remember has been obsessed with the mysterious and lost city of Weep. As an apprentice librarian he spent all his time researching and collecting any story, myth or fairy tale about what happened.

Then one day, representatives from Weep show up in his town asking for help. He manages to talk his way into joining the expedition to find the city of his dreams and what happened to it.

Meanwhile the gods had had children and after the gods were slaughtered, only 5 infants survived and remained in hiding, trying to figure out how to continue to survive and maybe get revenge for what happened to their parents.

++++

My description does nothing to explain this amazing story of men, gods, revenge, mystery, magic and hope.

The writing was stunning and I kept finding myself wanting to return. I liked the characters. The romance aspect is sweet, and I didn't care at all that I guessed the "twist" before the halfway point.

I will most certainly be getting the next book in the very near future.
