Yesterday I started having the "one week to moving" panic attack. You know the kind that covers the range of "I'm never going to get the old place packed up", "the new place isn't going to be ready for me", "why bother, I'm dooooOOOOOOOoooomed!", to "I can't afford to take the weekend away, there's too much to do"

[livejournal.com profile] dicea got me through by pointing out obvious things that the rational part of my brain knew but the emotional side didn't want to accept.

Yes, the big move is a week from tomorrow. But...

1. My lease on the apartment doesn't end until August 31st. Therefore...

As long as just the big furniture is moved on the 7th, it's all good. I don't need to worry about getting the closets totally empty. I don't need to worry about not having all the clothes/fabric ready to go over.

And she's right. It's the furniture and appliances that I need the help getting over to the Doma. Little stuff I can do with just me or me and her.

Of course I still plan to have as much as humanly possible bagged/boxed/packed up and over, but It's not as daunting.

Though it doesn't help that I've had the little voice in my head going "It's not like you didn't know this was coming. It's not like you couldn't have started the packing part sooner."

I really hate that voice.

I understand the panic.. but really, you have lots of friends who are happy and willing to help. I'm certain there's a couple.. who would be happy to finish packing up stuff, while other people work on moving furniture and other big items.

Yes, having everything packed and ready to go would be great.. However, don't put all of your energy into that and have none for your moving weekend. Only so many people can fit thru a door at the same time. Find a couple of friends who don't mind packing up "stuff" and have a couple work on that, while everyone else works on moving boxes and big stuff.

Worse case.. everything big will be moved and you can move the rest later. However, IMO.. you should take advantage (in a good way) of the people who want to help.. and let them help, even with the packing.

If I go, I'll be happy to do any remaining packing. I'm an army brat, so I can pack in my sleep. :)

Tell that little voice in your head, that you were dealing with other equally or more important things, like painting, getting carpet, yard sale, etc.. and hopefully breaks, just for you time. Which is very important.

I would shoot that little voice for you, but since it's kinda inside you, that won't work very well. So, how about I just tell it to hush unless it has some helpful ideas to help??

Hugs,

Stupid voice.
Tessathehuntress has it exactly right.
You have two whole months after the "move date" to get moved. This weekend is about the big stuff, the heavy and awkward furniture and appliances, and the items you need for day to day life. You will then have a long time to move anything that doesn't get moved this weekend. You have been very wisely preparing the Doma so that when you do move it is as ready as it can be for now.
Sounds like a pretty darned luxurious move to me.

Hi,

: )

First of all it isn't as though you have been slacking. You have had a a lot to do before you moved and I am sure that the Doma looks fantastic! It will be fine.

If my parents hadn't come to help me the day before the movers arrived in 1998, I never, ever would have been able to get out of that apartment. Packing sucks. Which is why you are supposed to have friends pack with you. Friends just put the stuff in boxes. They don't have to ooh and aah and decide whether it should be kept.

Good luck! It's exciting and scary and annoying all rolled into one emotional ball.
