If the eggplant is in the shade there is a flea that eats it. We found this out last year. This year we have slugs and something else. We are using cheap crap beer in a tilted cup. They crawl in and die. Dump them daily because dear gods above, 2 days later you all kinds of do not want to smell that ecosystem piece up close. We have been spraying Dr Bronners (DILUTE! DILUTE!) about 1 tbs in 1 quart of water onto anything leafy green. You do have to reapply after the rain. I forget this sometimes.
Peas want to climb something. Last year we used string and they loved it, this year we used string and an elderly re-purposed fence. They love both options.
