retail therapy

baronessekatLast week I took advantage of some groupon deals that crossed my email desk. I recognized even then that it was a form of self-medicating retail therapy. Oh well.
Last night one of the items arrived. I broke down and bought myself a GPS. Given how much this winter I'm travelling (and most of it will probably be alone making reading directions difficult). It's a magellan. I would have preferred a garmin, but it was $64 with lifetime map and traffic updates (not including shipping). Original price was $249. Really hard to say no to that.
I just checked and the other item I ordered - a pair of boots - is out for delivery as I type this. This one I'm nervous about as I've never bought shoes online, let alone boots. But they were a deal for $29 (with shipping) when the original price was $80.
I have 5 yards of fabric at home that's been calling me to make it into something. I'm leaning towards a cotehardie or something of that nature. IT's a period pattern but not period material (since I'm allergic to wool that would be a given anyway if it's not linen). But not sure yet. Maybe I will take a swatch with me to the event this weekend and get ideas from folks. It might work for german or flemish, not sure though. Have to see. Might take a picture and send it to my friend Briatz in the Outlands. She's the one who's clothing construction I love and she might have a better suggestion.
But meanwhile I am excited to play with my new toy and try on my new boots tonight.
