The 5th Wave by Rick YanceyMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
If I could give half starts this would be a 2.5. I just found it eh. there was nothing particularly wrong with the book, it just didn't grab me like others have. I really enjoy dystopian books. I like Young Adult Books. This one however left me rather flat.
The concept was cool. Aliens come and try to exterminate the Human race. Teenage girl who has survived the first 3 onslaughts attempts to find her little brother, who was taken by the military for "safe keeping", while avoiding being captured herself by said military or killed by the aliens. The premise had potential.
I did not agree with the way the author wrote the character of Sammy. He was either acting much younger than his 5 years old, or WAY to much older. The only character I found any empathy for was Zombie/Ben. Most of the time I found Cassie annoying. By the end of the book, I just really didn't find myself emotionally involved enough to desire to continue with the series.
I can't tell if my apathy is from the book itself or the readers of the audiobook. Either way... eh.
I picked up this book because I have read the books for almost all the other "Made into a Movie this year" that I had an interest in. Based on the movie trailers, I had decided was a Redbox/Netflix not a "must see in the theater" movie. But now.... I'm not even sure I'll actively look for it on TNT.
