It was pain that I first noticed.
Then that feeling of suffocating. I opened my mouth to speak but found I couldn’t.
It took most of my self-control to not panic at the feeling of not being able to breathe. My chest burned. My mind started screaming that I needed to breathe but couldn’t
Focus. Don’t panic.
When I finally opened my eyes I started to cough and looked straight up into Jayne’s face.
“Damn mule kicked you hard, Mal. Knocked the air right out of ya.”
I spoke only when I could breathe again. “No kidding. I hadn’t noticed”
