adventures in bargain hunting
Jun. 24th, 2006 08:16 pmAfter hitting JoAnn Fabric's yesterday and getting fabric for garb, I got home and realized... I have no thread to sew said garb on that I know where the heck it is.
So I called my mom at 10:30ish last night and asked if she wanted to go with me to Hancock Fabrics. They are closing all of their NY stores and the one here in Buffalo has everything 40-70% off. I had honestly intended just notions.
But... fabric... sale... mom was willing to buy.
Did I mention 100% wool 70% off (an additional 10% if you took the bolt)? Patterns 70% off. Buttons 60% off (additional 10% if you bought more than 5 cards). 100% cottons... 40% off.
the poor woman who ended up being the one to help us at the cutting table seemed rather overwhelmed when we showed up with the shopping cart overflowing to the point we should have had a second cart with bolts of fabric to be cut had never seen one order have that much fabric.
Then we wandered a bit more after cutting and ended up at check out and the poor woman who cut all the fabric got to be the one to ring it up.
Had it not been on sale the total (BEFORE tax) would have been around $882. but after all the discounts and after tax it came to $410.
Now, some of it was actually for mom and her bear making non-existant hobby (she swears she's going to make teddy bears and sell them at craft fairs, we'll see).
But now I have fabric for garb for war!
Just have to get it all washed and start the mad cutting and sewing.
I even ended up calling the boo and boogie and meeting them back at the fabric store for fabric for Boogie for garb.
I stll need some notions and stuff. Not to mention still need to find the schematics for the gwazhee coat. IF all else fails I guess I can modify one of my russian patterns for it.
So anyway, if you don't see me quite as much as before, it's becuause I've chained myself to the sewing machine.

Date: 2006-06-25 01:22 pm (UTC)The wools had just gone to 70% yesterday so they most likely will be gone very soon.
the decorator fabrics were still looking good at 50% there is a 5 yard minimum with them. Everything else was 2 yards or the bolt (which ever came first).
buttons and embrodiery floss still looked good.
I just wish I had a place to put one of their cutting tables. they're selling the fixtures too and the nice waist high cutting tables (well waist high on me) were going for $60
but all in all... get the couch.
