How the hell did he know? Not like he got to chatting up the Feds. So how in the hell did that Hwoon dahn figure it out that I went and talked up the stuffed shirts for the reward on those two fugies.
Not like they do anything but cause trouble. And that girl. Total freak job that she is. Going and just grabbin’ a knife and slicing up a fella for no good reason.
Someone ought to put a bullet to her and put her and us our of the misery and headaches that she causes.
How long is that man going to keep me in this here airlock? I apologized damn it. He’s probably right now telling all of them what I done. Should have turned them all in. Gotten a bigger reward. Not that I got any reward to begin with. All that trouble and not a single cred.
“Jayne?” River’s voice came over the com. He blinked and stood up looking through the porthole into the hold. There she stood, com in hand and smiling.
“Yeah?” he asked cautiously. “Think you can let me out of here?” Can’t hurt to be polite. Maybe she can hit the button to let me in.
“Did you know there is a saying from the Earth That Was?”
What the gorram hell is she talking about now? “Huh?”
“Earth that Was. There was a saying about the Black. I always wondered if it was true. Think you can help me figure it out?”
“Sure. Just open the hold door and I’ll help you anyway you want.”
“Oh but I can’t. If I open the hold door you can’t help me.”
“What the heck are you talking about. How can I help you in here.”
“Simple. The saying was ‘In space, no one can hear you scream’. Think that’s true?”
That took him aback.
“Hey….. you let me in right now.” He started pounding on the door. “Let me in right now.”
Her hand moved to hover over the control panel, right above the outer door seal release.
“Can you scream in space?”
He started yelling at the top of his lungs and pounding with all his might.
In the end, she set the com down, smiled at him and just walked away.
He stood there staring, heart pounding a mile a minute.
Yeah, bullet to the brain. Damn wack job.
