OK, there's a water main break that is effecting the building I work in. We contacted the main building (around the corner in the same business park).

We all had the hope they'd send us home. I mean come on... no water... no working toilets, no way to wash hands or anything.

Our response was "You may come to the main building to use the bathroom". As if we had to first ask permission to use the potty.

Gees. Go ahead and tell 25 women they can't use the bathroom and see what happens next.

So let me tell you a story.

Once upon a time the mighty Bank and Mortgage Company known as Federal National Mortgage Corporation, affectionately called FreddieMac, was fostering a piece of property in an upstate New York city. It was in a nice city but FreddieMac knew it couldn't provide the love and care this house and land needed so they put it up for adoption hoping to find a family that would care for it the way it needed to become the grand thing FreddieMac knew it could be.

John and Jane Doe came to FredieMac and said they wanted to buy this property. They knew it needed work but they believed they had the love needed to help this little house shine.

So the adoption process started. It is not a very long process. Perhaps maybe a month and a half long. During this time John and Jane went to their own mortgage company to ask if they would help the Doe's adopt the little house.

While they waited for answer from their mortgage company, they thought they could help the little house before it became theirs. They found a way to visit the house without FreddieMac knowing. They went inside to spend time with the little house. They helped clean it up and make it feel pretty.

But FreddieMac found out about the unauthorized visits and informed the Doe's that until all the paperwork was signed they could not visit the house. That was the rules. FreddieMac went and secured the little house making sure it was safe.

But the Doe's were persistant and they wanted to visit the house again. They wanted to make it really pretty, so they found a way around the security and visited the house again. They helped it by taking down old lighting and stripping wallpaper off the walls. All so that when the little house could be theirs, they would be closer to making it a really pretty little house.

But FreddieMac found out about the visit and said that if they didn't stop visiting the house they would have to call the police. because until the adoption paperwork was finalized, they were responsible for the little house and they didnt' want anything to happen to it.

Then, just before all the paperwork was to be finished, John and Jane Doe found out that their mortgage company said that they would not help them adopt the little house.

John and Jane are now out of the running for the little house, out all the money they invested in fixing the house that does not belong to them and will not belong to them, and may not get their deposit back because FreddieMac has to go in and fix things now that the Doe's did while they visited the little house.

The moral of the story: Don't move in until you have the keys.
