Dear all mighty. The book I just finished should not have been printed let alone sold to the mass market.

Jayne Ann Krentz "Raven's Prey". Now I admit that I like Romance. I like Jayne most times (though I much prefer her pseudonym Amanda Quick) But this book was beyond horrible

Not quite Nappy Buttocks but close.

The plot had potential. But there was no chemistry between the lead characters other than constant tention and bickering. They don't trust each other. They are always fighting each other and I see no evidence of this "charged passionate tension" between them.

He's a bully, an asshole and major dick head. She's a shrew, a primadonna and a bitch.

He won't listen to her, she is constantly making bitting snap judgements.

He thinks that after one night of get your rocks off that she belongs to him. He forces her to come to his home so she can be with him. She hates him.

Another night of not thinking above the gonads and suddenly she's in love with him.

Uh huh. Riiiiiiiiight.

I can deal with the sudden realizations of love and atraction, but this was ridiculous. There was no real evidence of any attraction up until they are in bed together and even then it seemed forced.

The climax that is supposed to bring the two leads together in the "I can't live without him/her" moment was almost an afterthought.

I should look to see when this one was written. I hope to high heaven that it's one of her VERY early books as I know she can write better. I'm certainly glad I didn't spend money on that book, but took it from mom's collection.

I"ll give it to [livejournal.com profile] dicea so that she can share the pain. What are best friends for?

it's hot. and you know it's hot when I say it's hot.

But the cats are all three laying sprawled in the bathtub trying to get cool.

I was upstairs trying to get up enough energy to do a workout and noticed I'm dripping sweat and I haven' done anything beyond look at the DVD packages to try and figure out what one I want to do.

Well, depsite the high electric bill I'm already facing and not sure how to pay... I wrestled the window AC unit into the bedroom window and have it cranked at the moment. We will face the living room another time.

Need to find the duct tape but for now, the strapping and packaging tape will work to hold the barriers up around the unit.

Right now it's 82º outside. IT was well above the record high of 90º earlier today. According to the thermostat in the living room it's over 90º inside (the old dial style thermostat doesn't register above 90).

Yep. it's hot. Hope this isn't a sign of what the summer is going to be like.

I realized that not very many would understand the catigorization of using "Nappy Buttocks" to explain how vile a book was.

Many years ago I bought a book because it sounded interesting.

EWWWWWWW.

Third Person, present tense. Horrible imagery and the story just plain sucked.

And when one of the hero's lovers is described with having "nappy buttocks" every instinct in my female primate brain went EEEEEW. Of course I made Dicea read it too and she's never forgiven me.

But the book was called "Bound in Blood"

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1575667649/sr=8-1/qid=1149043100/ref=sr_1_1/103-5440196-3997467?%5Fencoding=UTF8

for those who want to see the amazon info on it. It is and remains the ultimate in horrible books. It's even the one book that I spent over $10 on that wasn't a college text book that I willingly threw out when I was done with it just so I'd never have to look at it again.
