So I'm not an avid birding person or anything. but I've got a couple feeders out and I enjoy watching what comes to visit.

I get the usual sparrows, common finches, robins, grackles, starlings and red-wing blackbirds. This year I have only seen one woodpecker and one female cardinal. In passing I spotted a blue jay and the other week I opened the back door to find a juvenile hawk sitting on my back deck.

In winter I got Juncos.

But today was a first for me.

I came home to find two birds in my driveway I had never seen. They kinda looked like sandpipers but not so long in the beak.

When I got out I heard their song and thought I recognized it. So I looked it up and yep...

I had a pair of killdeer sitting in my driveway. I've only ever heard them, never seen them.

It's not much but it was a "oh neat" factor for me.

So it's been too rainy to mow lately. Today was dry all day and sunny so I suck up and decide I really need to mow the front yard. I had become "that neighbor" in the area and wanted to remedy that right away.

Three passes from being done with the front yard I run out of gas. My fault for not checking before starting. I go get the gas can, fill the gas tank. Go to restart the mower and the cord pulls and goes slack without starting. The spring appears to not be tight anymore.

And of course the part not mowed is right next to the driveway by the front door. not along the side of the house or something so it's not too obvious.

I'm taking this as the sign to not try to cut out the russian coat I was thinking of doing tonight.

Nope, think tonight is an evening with a book, old episodes of Buffy and make faces at the world
