garage door adventures
Nov. 21st, 2008 09:48 amI got up and called the garage door people. Who may I say to those in the area, if you need a garage door or repair, call Hamburg Overhead Door.
The lady on the phone was very nice and helpful. she apologized that they could not get an emergency team there until tomorrow. But she and I both knew I was going to need to replace the panel anyway so she would send over the sales guy today to get things started and that maybe Don could help me get the door so I could open it to get the van out, and thus save me a $95 service call fee.
So Don came over and did just that. He made it so I can manually open and close the door, thus getting the van out of the garage.
We've placed the order for the replacement panel and new garage door opener. Part of the issue last night was that the opener was old and the metal sensing spring that tells it there is an obstruction and to bounce back up is old and it takes more pressure than the new steel core doors provide. Opener is trashed anyway. And the sales guy was a nice older gentleman who has two boys about my age so I played on the "I know you need to make a commission but please, what would you sell your 35 year old daughter who as a tight budget?" And he helped me pick one that met what I needed without the 20 million bells and whistles.
So now, while I could go to work, I'm instead going to take my write up over to my insurance dude and see how much of it can be covered by HomeOwners. At least some of it will.
The actual replacement of the panel will not happen until mid-december as the manufacturing plant is closed next week for the holiday and it usually takes about 2 weeks to come in so he's guessing around the 11th or 12th for the part to arrive then sometime in the following week for the actual replacement. Oh well, I can cope with parking in the driveway again. I mean I only parked in the garage 3 times prior to this and since I haven't made snow plowing arrangements, I can just cope with shoveling this season.
