Amazing

it took 40 minutes for the scrolling at the bottom of the TV screen to get through all the school closings. these are all closed in anticipation of the storm that's coming.

when i was a kid we never got closed for anticipation. We got closed for snow and the occasional wind chill but never "there's a storm that might be coming" Heck Sweet Home (my school district) rarely closed. the rest of the damn county would be closed but mine and the one my mom worked at always seemed to be open. Amazing the changes in 25 years.

Yes it's snowing.

I got to the I-219 on the drive in and that's when I saw the snow starting. No biggie. It's been snowing steadily since I got her at 7:50. there's about 2 inches on the ground.

Boss just sent an email saying that due to the weather we can leave after noon/when the tapes are done for the day.

While it's nice I'm also thinking "But they are all saying the weather will ease by 3 and should be more or less stopped by the drive home."

But I will take the tapes to WNED and head home when things are ready. Slow and steady.

but really people. This is Buffalo. It snows. It is not a strange concept.

Everyone but me and two editors have left. I'm here because I'm the one who has to take the tapes for broadcasting tonight. They are here because they are making the tapes.

I just went out and cleared off all three of our cars and shoveled them out.

I would say actual accumulation is around 3.5 inches. Drifting = 8 in places. But the snow is light and powdery. So as long as the wind does not kick up it's really not all that bad out.

When I left work at 2 it had stopped snowing completely there. It was a different story as I made my way home (north)

through the city region it was lightly snowing turning to sleet.

Here at home it's still really snowing and coming down and blowing. I'm going to let it blow a bit more before I bundle up and start on the driveway.

two hours of shoveling and I got 2/3 of the driveway cleared. (not counting the side pad which is not getting done).

At the base of the driveway where the plow had tossed crud, the snow was up to my knees. Up near the house it was about 6 inches.

I had to stop shoveling because the wind was actually cutting through the snowmobile suit I was wearing and I was starting to have trouble with the whole breathing thing.

I'll get up early and finish the driveway. I have a 9:15am nail appointment and then have to run some errands before my sister arrives from DC.

So this evening found me yet again cursing myself for breaking the garage door and thus eliminating the possibility of either snow plow service or buying a snowblower of my own. (well one that works anyway).
