The Rook by Daniel O'MalleyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
X-Men meets Bourne Identity.
I really enjoyed this new approach to introducing a new world or concept. The main character wakes up with no knowledge of who she is and why she is standing in a field surrounded by bodies.
As she learns about herself we get to learn about the secret world that is around us all.
While there were times that the narrative dragged a little, the overall pace was good and there was just enough of the "I have no clue what's happening" to keep you engaged without getting bored.
I hope that the author writes more in this world, but even if he does not, the book does still work as a stand alone.
