Turn of events
Jun. 30th, 2021 02:26 pmSunday I reached level 48 Human status.
That morning I was standing in my kitchen, drinking my iced coffee and looking out into the backyard. I start making a mental note that the deck SERIOUSLY needs to be replaced. It's just not safe to walk on it, if you don't know where the cross supports are. Focusing on one particular hole in the wood I suddenly see... a little black fluffy head pop through it. quickly the rest of the body followed, then a second head and body. Two little black kittens start scampering along and playing on the deck.
Huh.
So I take a bowl of kibble and a bowl of water out and set them on the deck for these babies. Later in the day I spot a grey adult cat munching away while the kittens played with the grown-up's tail.
Ok, that tears it, need to arrange for at least catching the kittens.
The next evening, just around sunset, I spot the kittens again... this time out in the lawn is a large black cat and... THREE more kittens. The way the black cat was watching them, I think she's the momma and the grey may be pops.
So yesterday I reached out to a friend who has a havaheart trap and started working on collecting up what I can. Last night I managed to catch two of the kittens. I had suspected they were around 8 weeks old, but they may be closer to 6. They are eating wet and dry food.
One is definitely a male that I have taken to calling Spitfire (because of his personality). I've managed to hold him with the use of a tea towl and start getting him used to being handled and petted.
The other has not allowed for any kind of holding yet. My hands will testify to the "leave me the F*CK alone attitude" that they have. I'm hoping over the next bit I can wrangle and start socializing this one. Regardless of gender, this one is called Charlie because while trying to wrangle them - Charlie bit my finger.
Tonight I will try to catch a couple more of the kittens.
Spitfire has already been claimed by a coworker who is willing to work to socialize him and get him fixed. For the others, I'm not sure what's going to happen. I cannot keep them as I already have 4. I've sent inquiries out to various animal rescue groups in my area with hopes they can help me get the kittens fostered and adopted out. I'd also love to get Mom caught to TNR her. I love cats, but want them to be healthy and safe.
