This is a book that is a memoir, call to action and social awareness proclamation.
Having been without the use of her legs after surviving cancer at the age of three, author Rebekah Taussig has had to face a world that is not designed for people like her. Yes there are accommodations, but not like it should.
This book tells of her struggles in every day life that a "able-bodied" person would never think of... googling a location for accessibility before accepting a dinner invitation from friends, moderating food and liquid intake before going out because you cannot be sure that the restroom will allow for our mobility aid, can she reach the counter to pay for a purchase in a store. Not to mention the constant waving away of "earnest but no so helpful people" who want to give assistance but are actually a hindrance to the point of being anxiety inducing.
I am not ashamed to admit that while I have thought of these things, it's never been a "front of mind" thinking. I am really glad I listened to this book and would recommend it to others.
