By putting on a pair of VR glasses, people enter the world of Warcross - a virtual reality capture the flag game that came onto the scene 10 years ago and now nearly everyone participates.
Every year there is a Giant Warcross Tournament that is like a cross between American Ninja Warrior and Capture the Flag meets the Olympics and the Superbowl combined.
Emika is an 18 year old bounty hunter struggling to just make rent. Her quarry is those who illegally bet on Warcross. She's prefer to be a professional hacker, but a run in with the law in her youth nixed that.
On the day of the Warcross Tournament Opening Ceremonies, Em hacks into the games and attempts to steal a rare power-up with the intention of selling it on the dark web so that she can pay her landlord and not end up homeless. Instead she ends up glitching into the game and find herself at the center of something much more sinister than breaking into a game to steal a bit of code.

I really enjoyed this book. But I do admit that I have a love of LitRPG stories. If you like the genre... if you liked Ready Player One or Awaken Online, I would recommend this book
