Grimshaw Griswald Grimsby had dreams of being an Auditor. The elite Magical law enforcement Agency. But his magical skills rendered him "not Department Material". So he's stuck in a dead-end job entertaining kids' birthday parties at a fast food chain.
But then his magical mentor and highly feared Auditor is murdered and the clues written in her own blood point to Grimsby and he finds himself teamed up with a legendary killer and an otherworldly critter in an attempt to clear his name and maybe turn his life around for the better.
++++
This is the debut novel of James Butcher, son of one of my favorite authors Jim Butcher (Harry Dresden author). He has created his own unique world where magic and humanity meet in the modern age, but it doesn't feel derivative of his father's work.
I look forward to seeing where this story and the author's career goes from here.
