baronessekatI want to first say that I really need to remind myself to start looking for new winter boots. While my current ones are functional (as in they are waterproof and mostly warm), three steps in them and they have pulled my socks down to my toes. This then negates the warm part down to "I haven't caught frostbite yet on my feet".
Got a small patch of either windburn or frostbite on my left index finger this morning. This comes from having dropped a glove in the car so it sat there in a snow puddle all night and was literally frozen solid when I retrieved it this morning.
It's now one in the afternoon on a Friday. Normally by now I would be at my desk, kicked back working on crochet projects for next twelfth night. I'm behind on my February project. But the New COO of the company is here. Finally. He was supposed to be here Wednesday, but didn't come. He was supposed to be here yesterday but no dice. Today he was 1.25 hours later than I was told he was going to be here. And well... the woman at the front desk sitting and doing crochet... while OK with the office bosses, would probably not cut it with the COO. So instead I have been finishing up the reading for Sunday.
I finished reading all 15 lessons that is in the self published into book from the church. I'm really hoping that the actual classroom lessons are not as circular in logic, double talking, insulting and down right stupid as I find this lesson book to be. (And don't get me started on the horrible grammar, punctuation and butchery of the English Language - and I'm a sinner in that field as it is).
I want to find a decent, published by an actual editor and book company, book on the belief system of Spirtualism. There are some things in what I read that I like, but a great deal of it I had trouble with. I'm wondering how much of my issues are with the presentation rather than the content.
I want to take the intro classes. As I have said before, no lesson is without merit. But given what I have read, and set next to my own personal belief system for comparison, I doubt I will become an actual member of the church, but more of a occassional attendance person. But it is good to explore what is out there in the world.

Talking to the Other Side: A History of Modern Spiritualism and Mediumship: A Study of the Religion, Science, Philosophy and Mediums that Encompass this American-Made Religion by Todd Jay Leonard.
It's currently available on Amazon. it's more of a history of the development of the religion, but (and I have not read it yet, so this is guesswork) I assume it would have an overview of the basic beliefs.
A word of caution: steer away from anything written by Uriah Smith. He's an apocalyptic Christian who is virulently anti-Spiritualism.
