Last night while packing I found a set of books of poetry that I had fallen in love with back in college. They are by a contemporary American Poet named Javan. His books are:

Footprints in the mind

A Heart Full of Love

Meet Me Halfway

Something to Someone

Anyway, after re-reading his work I found my inspiration for this week’s writing assignment



You asked me once,
Long ago when our lives together were just starting out,
To give you time so that I might understand.
That you speak with words, but not with standard definitions.
You make ovatures, but not with standard actions.
And out of love, I agreed.

I have stood back and observed.
I have fought the frustration and overcome annoyance.
I have learned the definitions.
I have interpreted the actions.
I have begun to understand.

I have come to realize
When it comes to communications
There is no “standard”,
There is no right or wrong.

So I have learned your language
I have taken the time to study and comprehend.
I have given to you what you requested.
And after all of that, I have but one question…
