I took the advice of multiple people I trust and treated myself to Transformers.

And as promised it was fun and I"m really glad I saw it on the big screen. I definately will own when it comes out on DVD.

I'm happy they got the same actor to do the voice of Optimus Prime. I couldn't tell if it was the same one for Megatron.

My only complaint... isn't Megatron supposed to be some sort of supper gun/cannon rather than a vehicle? I never recalled him being a plane.

I enjoyed the movie and am glad I went. But now, time to transfer a load of laundry over to the dryer and go to bed.

Moo.

Megatron

I read somewhere that the reason (or one of the reasons) they changed Megatron was that they could not make a toy tie-in with him anymore if he were a toy gun (for child safety reasons and such). Not sure if that's true or not, or just an internet rumor. The geek in me was initially distraught at the change, but as I watched the movie...

Um...inserting spoiler space, I guess, to not antagonize anyone...

...it sorta' made sense that he would still be in "alien jet" mode since he didn't ever get a chance to assimilate to the culture like the rest of them did, having been trapped under the ice and all...

That would be my guess as well. The original Megatron toy was (as I seem to recall) a slightly over-sized, quite realistic (at first glance) P-38 pistol with a scope attached. Under most state laws today, the toy is actually illegal to sell because it doesn't have that stupid orange thing on the barrel.

I found it quite ironic that the anti- message of the "evil gun" Megatron was so successful that the toy itself was banned in some states:)

Megatron was voiced by Hugo Weaving, so not the same person who did the voice for the series.

Megatron actually had multiple incarnations over the years, depending on which series and toy line you were talking about. The movie did a lot of things that weren’t cannon from the original TV series.
