Cat owners...

Have any of you used any of the commercial cat repellants in your home to keep your cats out of a certain area or off a piece of furniture? If so, does it work?

There is a spot in the dining room that the dog my mother had used to apparently use all the time and I have found that one of my cats keeps marking there and I'm tired of it. I'm thinking of putting repellant on the area to try to stop it and wonder if it would work.

This may sound like a silly idea but it just came to me. How about buying a plastic backed car well rug or two Or the plastic office rug rollie mats. PUt that over the spot while treating it repeatedly over and over again. IT will at least keep Alex from marking the spot until we can get carpet in that room.

We had some trouble with Bosley back in our previous house. After trying 8 million sprays, powders, and what have you, we had decent success with the Feliway diffusers. They're a little more expensive, but you might be able to find them cheap online. It was the only thing we noticed having any effect. We also put a litter box where he marked the most -- at least he would choose to use the litter box instead of the carpet. We left the litter box there because it was an out-of-the-way spot, but I have read that once you get your cat in the habit of using the box again, you can try slowly moving it away from the spot in question over the course of several weeks until you get it where you want it.
