So I went and renewed all my meds while I still had health insurance. I talked with them and found that the monthy retail costs for me for my meds would be around $90.

If I got cobra I would be paying $267 a month for the insurance alone plus the copay. I'm thinking I'm just going chance that I won't need to be hospitalized or anything until I get a new job and insurance. To be saving over $160 a month just on the off chance I get too sick is worth it.

Also check.. if you can take generics.. walmart and Giant eagle down here have a huge list of prescriptions that they will fill for $4. each.

Also, often pharmacies and places like Target, Kmart, Walmart will offer a $ 20.00 Gift Card when you transfer a prescription to them. A lot of places will accept a competitors coupon.. this includes grocery stores.

I've transferred my prescription for B.C. around and basically got it free for a year. It just stretches your money.

There are also programs here in PA, so there may be some in NY, that offer prescription coverage for people who don't have insurance and/or are under a certain $ amount for the year.

Just some stuff that may help. A lot of stuff you can check online, without having to talk to people or go to their location. :)

I hope that helps.. good luck..

Also, most COBRA deals you do not have to sign up for right away so you will probably have a few months before the sign up date. If you get a job between now and then, no worries, if you get sick and need it between now and then, you can always sign up for it later.

If you have pre-existing conditions, do not let your health insurance lapse or your new health insurance may not be required to cover you. It's different in every state, I believe, and I don't know what NY does. Usually, if you haven't had a lapse in insurance, they are required to cover you but if you have, they aren't.
