For a very long time they were published out of order. The version for the films is the order that a lot of people grew up with.

Oh really? I have a book that's a compendium all in one book and Magician's Nephew came second. It's under 10 years old. So the movie is the correct order and the recent publications have it incorrect, yes?

Oh wait, I'm wrong, my current book has Magician's Nephew first, then Lion, Witch and Wardrobe, then Horse and his Boy then Prince Caspian, yadda yadda, it was a collection I had earlier that had Magician's Nephew second I was recalling.
