I got an email from the staffing agency I met with today that included the benefits for the job in Lockport that had the really good salary.

There was the standard 90 days before health and dental kick in. That I'm used to and everywhere I've ever worked and applied to that has been the practice. It's the vacation and personal time that I'm concerned with:

"Full time regular employees are eligible for vacation days according to the following schedule after completing one full year of continuous employment:

Length of Service Vacation Allotment
1 Year of service 5 days vacation
2 years of service 5 days vacation
3 years of service 10 days vacation

Full time regular employees are eligible for personal days according to the following schedule after completing three years of continuous employment. Eligibility is determined by the number of completed years of service on Jan. lst.

Length of Service Personal Day Allotment

3 years of service 1 day
5 years of service 2 days
7 years of service 3 days
9 years of service 4 days
10 years of service 5 days

Relco Systems observes the following holidays for office personnel:

New Years Day Thanksgiving Day
Memorial Day Christmas Eve ( 1/2 Day)
July 4th Christmas Day
Labor Day"

I have to agree with Sabriel, whom I consulted about this, that these seem a bit stingy. Have to work there 10 years to have three weeks off total? I would definitely not be able to do any pennsic this year AND would not be able to go spend Thanksgiving with my sister this year and I would have to cut Pennsic short for at least 3 years.

I honestly don't know if the big increase in the salary is worth that. This definitely requires some soul searching if they offer me the position.

That sounds pretty light. Maybe that is the "new" plan for everybody.

We get 12 days of company holiday - it varies by division, but is generally something like this: 2@ thanksgiving, 2@ Christmas, labor day, 2@ memorial, 2@ 4th July, New Years day and two personal choice. Some years we have gotten our birthday off - I guess we get that instead of profit sharing.

I am not entirely sure what the current vacation allotment is for new employees at the Big X, but I am pretty sure that everybody gets two weeks after the first year, three at five years, four at ten years, and five at 20 years. The old plan got you six weeks at 25 years. I am pretty sure new employees are capped at five weeks which must be why my cube mate (new hire last year) is cranky about my six weeks of vacation for my 26 years of service.

Personal/Sick time is managerial discretion which could be good or bad depending on your boss.

Our medical and dental benefits actually pretty much suck - way down the scale from being the benchmark in corporate benefits that we used to have.

Oh Well....
