Hi all,

my boss has asked me to come up with a general list of advertisers that are on "mainstream" television networks.

Since I only watch certain channels I was hoping folks could give me a hand and as you are watching TV over the next week, could you make a list of what companies you see ads for?

What in heck is a "mainstream network?" In this day of cable and all, is "The CW" mainstream? How about HBO? CNN? I'm not sure if the question is well-defined.

Interesting way to do the survey, though. Creative. But isn't there an organization of advertisers on broadcast TV? Or a "parent-watch" group list of advertisers rated as US and THEM?

I'm not going to be much help, either way. I only watch TV as I pass through the living room at home on my way from the kitchen to the computer, and even then, half the time it's on PBS (which I strongly suspect is not "mainstream").

Background: I work for a small grassroots cable network that started out 4 years ago as a "Muslim Lifestyle Network". Now that we have gotten a base and are starting to really grow, my boss wants to take us away from the religious aspect and be more cultural. So he's looking for stuff on the big 3 (NBC/CBS/ABC) and also other cable channels like CNN, USA, TNT, TBS, etc.

Basically he wants a list so he can then get our advertising people to start approaching bigger companies rather than small local stuff.

sorry since most the television i watch is through tivo i don't see many commercials
