baronessekatI'm returning to the weekly writing attempt. My partner in the project gave me a topic to start the year with. So here it goes:
Open door. Drop keys on table. Close door. Kick off shoes. Call out greeting. No answer.
Coat in closet. Start kettle. Upstairs to change. Back downstairs.
Get cup. Get teabag. Kettle boils. Pour water. Let steep.
Make tea. Pick up cup. Sit in favorite chair.
Inhale aroma of tea. Sigh. Sip. HOT! Blow to cool. Sip. Sigh in contentment.
Smile.
Relax.
Enjoy tea. Listen for sounds. None. Smile more. Finish tea.
Door bangs open. Voices bickering. Door slams.
“MOM!”
Sigh in resignation.
Silence gone but not forgotten.
