Last night Dicea came over to help me. We got the boxes of xmas stuff down into the basement. Big task there and of itself.

Then she helped me by going around and helping me make a list of things that need to be done to help make the Doma presentable again for guests. That helped a lot. Just having another set of eyes, who is not used to seeing it all everyday and has no real emotional investment into it point out what does and does not need to be done made it easier.

After she left I managed to cross off three things from the list (not including the hour long argument with the garbage disposal).

I even got up early to get a little more done and cross off another thing.

With careful time management I should have no problem getting at least two more things done on the list tonight AND get the scroll for this weekend calligraphed.

And while there is a possibility that the guests might not be coming afterall, due to life being poopy-headed, I'm still going to do as much as I can.

Getting the house clean will help with getting the head cleared and mind back where it needs to be.

Awesome - sounds like you got a lot done! I know exactly what you mean about a clean house helping to clear the head...

Now that's a spiffy idea -- getting a fresh set of eyes.

I think I might steal it, and enlist the help of a friend to recommend in which order I should attack the various eyesores of my Home Sweet Home. (Assuming I can conquer the ravening hordes of rabid dust bunnies that is.)

Yeah, it helped a great deal. Like you said, just to have someone say "I'd do this first as that would then make it easier to do that".

Because as it was, I had no real way to fathom how to start that wouldn't make it actually worse. Or help me avoid doing the pointless tasks that would not accomplish anything other than procrastinating on the necessary things.

I highly recommend that if you have a friend you trust to see the house in it's not "company ready" state, to have them come in and help.

Heheh... I'm an apprentice. I can get Master [livejournal.com profile] lucianus to take a look at the place. Especially as we have cunning plans to turn the garage into a wood and metalworking shop.

I think if I can make a list of tasks, broken into 1 or 2 hour chunks, that can be assigned to the next few weekends; then I'll be able to get a lot done.

One of the early priority tasks is going to be to cull the bookshelves (I swear they're breeding!) and go through the CD piles. (I don't really need software than runs on WinNT anymore.) That will give me space to put away the piles of books and CDs.
