A flag flies outside my door today. It stands as a symbol. A symbol of a country: A country that I am not ashamed to say I am a citizen of. A symbol of struggle: struggles of men and women throughout the centuries to make their lives and the lives of their descendants better. A symbol of freedom: freedom to live, work, worship, love as I choose.

This flag flies outside of my door today because of men and women who stepped forward to stand in defense of all that that flag is a symbol of. And it is these men and women that I think about and thank.

I'm listing branches and action when I know them.

On the plus side, you know more of the names.

On the minus side, the list is longer.

The minus side? I pray the list never shrinks if only because it means my countrymen and women still feel the Republic is worth defending. ;)

Ask any Vet why, and they may not know the answer;
what ever called them, they knew they must answer.
To serve and sacrifice, it is the soldiers way;
so it is to honor then that we have Remembrance Day.
Not for glory or victory do we take this annual pause;
to praise the "protectors of peace," heroes to the cause.
