1. How did you find the SCA and what drew you to it?
Like a good deal of SCAdian's my age - college friend I was doing Rocky Horror at the time and Portia (though I knew her then by her real name) and Una (ditto on the real name) showed up in garb. I asked about it. Next thing I knew I was going to an event. What drew me was the people. And it probably didn't hurt that I was an anthropology and history major.

2. Aside from the actual art itself, what do you feel the biggest contribution that scribes make to the Kingdom?
I think it's the helping to make someone feel special for one magic moment. I love that moment to see the person get the scroll and realize that what just happened happened and people thought about them well enough to not only award them for their efforts but give the pretty thing to help them always remember that moment.

3. You have seen alot of this past year and gone through many adversities... What has kept you motivated and inspired you the most?
I guess that just the thought that I really can't quit. I have to keep going. Giving up is not an option. And when I feel like I just want to, I hear a certain Duke's voice in my ear saying "just a little bit more"

4. If you could go back in time and spend 24-hours with anyone, who would that be and what would you hope to learn?

Um...I think I would like to be the age I am now and be able to go back and spend a day with my Great-Great Uncle Roy when he was either in his mid-20's or when he was in his 70's. I knew him mostly when he was in his 90's and I was very young. I recall stories he told about being a horse thief, a rum-runner during prohibition, going to the Pan-Am Expo the day before McKinley was shot and other things. I wish I knew then to listen and remember the stories. He was a scamp, a scalawag and a good man. I would like to get to know him.

5. You are a fabulous artist. What is your favorite illumnation style/calligraphy hand and what about that style calls to you?

I personally like too many styles. Lately, when I've done illumination, I'm drawn to the Manesse Codex. I like celtic and caroligian too. The one style that I like, but do not have the talent for and would someday love for my own wall is the late Italian jeweled squash bug. Like Yvianne and Aengus do.

Thanks for sharing. I like your answers. BTW, those Italian scrolls are my favorite to do. If you ever want to learn, I'll be happy to teach what I know. They aren't as complicated as you would think, once you break them down...
