Tacky is as Tacky does

I took the long way home today. Actually the long way meant that I actually got home sooner than I would have had I taken the direct and short way. In otherwords I took the regular roads than the highway.
This meant that I drove through neighborhoods after dark. I like doing that around this time of year just to see the lights.
And every year I am totally amazed. Both at the wonderfully beautiful things people do with lights AND at the complete WTF examples.
I saw one today that the entire front yard was full of the lit up blowup decorations. There was not any space between them. One is too much for me but 10? can you say EEeeewwww boys and girls?
Then I saw a beautiful federal style house with the single electric candle in each window and a large green wreath on the red front door in a spotlight. Simple and elegant.
Now, I have to admit, I have lights up on the door and window. And the ones in the door have desided to act up so only half are lit. Unfortunately they are behind the plastic weatherproofing so I can't fix them. And they are attached to the ones in the window so it looks kinda weird.
So I probably shouldn't speak but really... please people. If you are going to put lights on your house at the holiday times... simple. Less is more.
And for me- white or multicolored. The solid blue looks beyond strange to my eyes.
There are so many creative things that could be done with holiday lights. And there are so many tacky things that could be done as well
Which one are you? Will your neighbors and total strangers remember your house for the OMG how beautiful reaction or the OMG WTF reaction?
