For years, my favorite kind of chewing gum was your Doublemint brand. It was one of the few that I could actually chew.

But now.. WTF... sneaking in Asparthame into the ingredient list? And because use still use regular sugar for the main sweetener, you don't say you are "sugar free" then giving us who can't have asparthame a clue that things have changed. I stopped reading your ingredient list because you had been consistant for YEARS, if not decades

The headache and the tingling of my lips and tongue were a nice way to bring a small panic to my ordinarily "enjoyable" Wednesday.

Thank you for taking one more thing away from me.

Sincerely,

Me.

Oh I just did. Well, worded a little different.

I'm just curioius to see if I get a similar form letter back from them to the one that Dannon Yogurt sent me when I complained about them adding asparthame into their Lite and Fit (which had been one of the few Lite yogurts made with only splenda). The response I got from Dannon was a "thank you for being a customer and we know you will like our new improved flavor" when it was the new improved part I was complaining about.

did you get a live person or a "leave message"? If you got a live person, what did they say?

I spoke with a person. They aparently add it not as a sweetner but as a texture enhancer. Well I gave her an earful, starting with how my Grandfather sold their gum during the great depression, how I grew up chewing it, how their new day glow colors give unnecessary artifical color to children, setting off those who get hyper from food dyes and then addressing the nutrasweet, how it gives you migranes and makes my stomach ill and because it isn't a sugar free product a lot of people don't notice they added this and are being made ill. She said she would make sure the complaint was passed on.....

probably nothing will be done.....
One more brand for me to avoid....

I don't like any artificial sweeteners. As far as taste goes, I much preferred my gum with sugar - artificial sweeteners, whether in gum or soda, leave a decidedly nasty aftertaste. I did find a brand of gum at my local food coop that may still have sugar, but I don't think it had artificial sweetener. I'll have to go check it out.

For a long time my favorite cereal was Cranberry Almond Crunch. And then one day my tongue started to itch...and I looked on the box and they had added walnuts to the ingredients - without changing the name of the cereal. I did contact the company - and make a complaint. I don't remember if it was a letter or a phone call. I stopped buying the cereal but started checking the list of ingredients and at some point they did remove the walnuts.

So - your comments should be of value! I'm glad you contacted them. And thank you for sharing.

I had the same problem with the crunchy granola bars I used to eat- they added walnut flour to the recipe. Fortunately, I had a benedryl on me and another driver available since the stuff knocks me out. D:
