The project I have been working on

Their Majesties of Æthelmearc are giving a dear friend of mine an award at Pennsic. The nice thing about being Signet is that sometimes you get to claim that special assignment. So I have been working on it rather steadily. Now, 43 hours later it is ready for paint.



Words are being done by another. I will add the arms at the very end as I have been posting the progress on FB and the recipient is on there and I do not want to give the surprise away.

Awww.... Sweet! Looks awesome. My hats off to all of you who do knotwork scrolls. They drive me crazy! I'd rather paint acanthus and portraits and jems and all that! My hat is off to you!

This is my first time doing zoomorphs of any magnitude. I did one many many years ago but that was just a running dog in a corner of a scroll.

I used to do knotwork all the time until I found Italian white vine. My color aesthetics fit better with the late Italian than with the Celtic. In fact I'm now at the point of almost immobilizing fear of doing the color combinations wrong on this. The inspiration was a black and white sketch I found in my notes from years ago. I don't even know where it came from.

But it fits the person so well that I had to do it for them.
